Definition
- A RURAL LANDSCAPE IN WHICH THERE IS LIMITED URBANIZATION AND IN WHICH SETTLEMENT IS GEOGRAPHICALLY CONTAINED TO SMALL TOWNS OR VILLAGES. THE COUNTRYSIDE IS A LANDSCAPE RESOURCE, AN AMENITY, AND A WORKING ENVIRONMENT. IN MANY NATIONS, COUNTRYSIDE AREAS ARE PROTECTED BY ZONINGS AIMED AT PRESERVING ITS CHARACTER AND ENVIRONMENT.
