Concept information
Preferred term
CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME
Definition
- A SYNDROME CHARACTERIZED BY PERSISTENT OR RECURRENT FATIGUE, DIFFUSE MUSCULOSKELETAL PAIN, SLEEP DISTURBANCES, AND SUBJECTIVE COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT OF 6 MONTHS DURATION OR LONGER; SOME EXPERTS THINK THAT A VIRAL INFECTION SUCH AS GLANDULAR FEVER CAN TRIGGER THE CONDITION. TIREDNESS IS NORMAL AFTER A VIRAL INFECTION, BUT THIS DOES NOT EXPLAIN WHY SYMPTOMS PERSIST AND GET WORSE IN CFS.
